Anisimova Finally Resumes on Tour

It has been a tough few months for Anisimova who hasn’t played a single match on tour since October last year. Her last victory had come in September in 2020, before she fell in the third round of the French Open, losing to Simona Halep 6-0, 6-1.

Since then, a defeat in Ostrava and then a string of pullouts to start off this season have hampered Anisimova’s rhythm.

The American took part in the Orlando ITF competition in mid-February, where she struggled to win her opener before withdrawing from the second round match because of an injury. Later she withdrew from the WTA Doha last week because of an ankle injury but makes it back to attempt to feature in what would be her first match of 2021.

Anisimova, who shot to fame with a semifinal run at the 2019 French Open, also has two WTA finals under her belt including one on hard court surfaces. The talent has never been in question, but whether she would be able to get back into her rhythm straightaway is a concern.

Konjuh Looking to Make an Ascent

The youngest player ever to win a WTA tournament since 2006, Konjuh looked to be the real deal a few years ago but has since lost a lot of her steam because of fitness woes, starting with her elbow injury in 2017.

As a result of that, Konjuh barely played any matches in the following two years and with the pandemic chopping off another season into half, the Croat enters this year ranked outside the top 400.

She lost in the third round of the qualifiers at the Australian Open due to which Konjuh didn’t take the trip to Melbourne, instead opting to play in two ITF tournaments. There, she failed to make it through to the main draw either.

Which is why her wins over Alexandra Krunic and Ysaline Bonaventure here in the qualifiers will give her hope it’s the turning of a corner. Question is if she can trouble a player ranked 32nd in the world.

Anisimova v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

Anisimova is 4/7 to win this, which isn’t a surprise despite the difference in their rankings because of the American’s lack of game-time all season. Backing her to edge past Konjuh here.

Tip: Anisimova to win: 4/7 (bet365)
