Sinner In Search of More Consistent 2021
It has been a mixed start to the season for the Italian teenager Jannik Sinner. After a good last season and a half, he has been earmarked as one of the Next Gen to look out for and looked very much on course, given his form at the start of the season ATP 250 in Melbourne, where he won his second career title.
With the Melbourne title at the back of a successful French Open 2020 campaign and a maiden ATP title in Sofia to end the last season, Sinner definitely came to the Australian Open with plenty of expectations.
With the tightly packed schedule in Australia, the Italian ran into Denis Shapovalov in the opener at the Melbourne slam less than 36 hours after winning his Melbourne title. He nearly gave Shapovalov a scare before bowing out in a tough five-setter in that first round match at the year’s first major.
This was followed by an opening round loss to Aljaz Bedene in the Montpellier opener and suddenly the season was not looking so promising anymore. A minor niggle saw him pull of Rotterdam this week, but he is back in Marseille rested and raring to go and looking to set his season back on course.

Barrere Unable to Translate Challenger Form To Main Tour
Gregoire Barrere is ranked just within the top 100 in the world. He has been on the tour for half of the last decade and not quite managed to translate his success on the Challenger Tour & ITF Tour to the main draw.
After starting out the season with a third round qualifier defeat at the Australian Open, Barrère featured in two Challengers in Quimper, and finished with a 1-2 win-loss record.
After getting through the qualifiers at Montpellier, where he defeated world number 40, Nikoloz Basilashvili, 6-4, 6-4, it was a disappointing opening round where Roberto Bautista Agut dropped only three games against him.
Back home, Frenchman Barrère will be hoping for a better run this week.
Sinner v Barrere Prediction and Tip
Sinner’s season is not quite at par with how things looked when he won the ATP 250 in Melbourne. However, this maybe the best way to turn it around, and the fifth seed should be able to handle the Barrere challenge with ease. A straight sets win for the Italian.
Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets : 8/13 (bet365)
