Elina Svitolina vs Svetlana Kuznetsova Head to Head
Svitolina leads 4-1 in the head to head tally. She has beaten the Russian in their last three meetings, with her last win over Kuznetsova coming in the 2020 Italian Open.

World No. 5 Elina Svitolina arrived in Dubai with a win-loss record of 9-4. She reached the quarterfinal in the WTA Abu Dhabi and Gippsland Trophy, and the fourth round in the Australian Open.
While she fell to the likes of Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova in these tournaments, it hasn’t deterred her from keeping at it. Svitolina has more or less cemented herself in the top 5 and has been a consistent part of it for the last few seasons.
Even though the Ukrainian hasn’t quite managed to win a title in 2021, she is showing all the signs of breaking that spell soon. Last week, she had yet another quarterfinal run in the Qatar Open where she fell to Victoria Azarenka.
Last season, Svitolina won the Monterrey Open and Strasbourg Open, and also reached the quarterfinal in the French Open.
The 26-year-old is heading into this game as the top seed. Moreover, she is in familiar territory in Dubai, having won the title back to back in 2017 and 2018.

Kuznetsova Struggling with Form Issues
As one of the most experienced players on the tour, Svetlana Kuznetsova will always be a formidable adversary to be up against. However, this season hasn’t been that great for her as she continues to struggle a lot to get some wins and consistency.
The 35-year-old Russian lost the opening round matches in the Grampians Trophy and Qatar Total Open to Jennifer Brady and Victoria Azarenka. In the Australian Open, she had a slightly better run where she fell to Belinda Bencic in the second round.
In Dubai, she started her journey with a three-set win over Qiang Wang. The match went on for two hours and 21 minutes and saw the Russian take the cake with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win.
The last time Kuznetsova made it past the second round in Dubai was in 2011 – back then, she reached the final and lost to Caroline Wozniacki. This is also the first time that she is playing in Dubai since 2016.
