It wasn’t the best start to the season for Kvitova but she did well to turn things around last week. After back to back second round losses at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open, Kvitova overcame a stiff challenge from four tough opponents to win the title at the WTA Doha last week, getting her season back on track in the process.
After an opening round bye, Kvitova demolished Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, was stretched to three sets by Anett Kontaveit but then came back into her own in the final two matches.
Almost as if she was growing in strength like protagonists of video games going through the levels, Kvitova carved out a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jessica Pegula but then most vitally crushed Garbine Muguruza in the final. It was like Muguruza never arrived, Kvitova raced away to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Kvitova, a losing finalist at this Dubai Open competition in 2019, had a first round bye but now resumes her attempt to continue with her winning streak. Can she make it five victories in a row?

Teichmann Zooms Past Zavatska
The start to Teichmann’s season was similar to Kvitova in that she went out in the first round of both, Gippsland Trophy and Australian Open. And while she hasn’t won a trophy since, Teichmann has done well in the two tournaments she has featured in after that.
At the Phillip Island Trophy, the Swiss player reached the quarterfinal before going out to Marie Bouzkova but then repeated her showing at the Adelaide International with three back to back victories to make it to the last four. The eventual winner Iga Swiatek eventually took care of her in the semifinal.
Starting out as a favourite in her first round match here in Dubai, Teichmann registered a sound win over Katarina Zavatska, defeating the Ukrainian world number 128 6-2, 6-1.
The opposition quality, however, will now change radically for her second round encounter and it remains to be seen if she can find a way to get past the world number 10.
Kvitova v Teichmann Prediction and Tip
Kvitova is a heavy favourite here after winning the title last week but at 1/5 it doesn’t make too much sense to back her. A straight-set win looks likely.
