Nadia Podoroska v Giuliana Olmos Head to Head

While these two players have never played each other on the WTA circuit before this, they have faced off on the ITF level and in the Fed Cup. Those matches came in 2016 and 2017 and both times Podoroska came through with a win.

Podoroska with a Mixed Start to the Season

It has been a bit of everything for Podoroska so far and that can be seen from her win-loss record of 4-4 so far in 2021. Having made it to the semifinal at the French Open as a qualifier last season, the Argentine had a decent record on hard court surfaces too, albeit at the ITF level in 2020.

This year, she started off with an opening round defeat in Abu Dhabi but then looked to have found her rhythm at the Yarra Valley Classic just before the start of the Australian Open. En route the quarterfinal stage, Podoroska defeated Petra Kvitova in the third round before she went down to Marketa Vondrousova.

An opening round win at the Australian Open was then, however, followed by back to back defeats, with Podoroska losing to Donna Vekic in the second round and then again to Irina Camelia-Begu in the opening round of the Phillip Island Trophy.

While this seems to be a way easier match on paper, what Podoroska would want is to get herself into bit of a deep run in this competition to get things moving.

Qualifier Olmos Hoping for Rare Main Draw Win

Olmos is coming off a season in which she didn’t participate at the highest level, instead opting to take part in the West Coast Pro Series in the USA between June and August. Her ranking, as a result, has fallen to 485th in the world.

She started off this season with a qualifier at the Abu Dhabi Open which in which Olmos lost in the first round, and then proceeded to take part in this tournament at home. Again, given her low ranking, Olmos had to participate in the qualifiers, and started off with a shock win over Mayar Sherif before making it through to the main draw.

Having not played in the main draw of competitions in a while, Olmos will hope she can put up bit of a fight but it looks like things could get very difficult.

Podoroska v Olmos Prediction and Tip

Podoroska is 1/6 to win this and 4/9 to do that in straight sets and these are some excellent odds for that result given the difference in form and quality of the two players.

Tip: Podoroska to win in straight sets: 4/9 (bet365)
