Eugenie Bouchard v Caroline Dolehide Head to Head

The 144th-ranked Bouchard has faced Dolehide, ranked 154th in the world, just once before this and that match came in the 2018 Birmingham Open qualifiers Bouchard won that in straight sets.

Bouchard Hoping to Kick-Start Winning Run

After missing out on qualifying for the Australian Open, this former Wimbledon runnerup has played just one main draw match this season and it came at the WTA Lyon last week. Drawn to take on Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Bouchard pushed her in the first set, taking it into a tie-breaker before losing in straight sets.

This was after Bouchard showed signs of improvement in 2020 after a rather underwhelming season the previous year where she barely won half a dozen matches in the entire 2019. Last year made it all the way to the final of the Istanbul Open, after starting out as a qualifier, and which she lost to Patricia Maria Tig, it helped her soundly to gain in the rankings charts.

Earlier she had also reached the quarterfinal in Prague, and a similar round at the Auckland Open early in the season.

What Bouchard would hope for is to break into the top 100 of the rankings and for that, a deep run in tournaments of this stature would be a must. The good news for Bouchard is she starts off against a player who herself has been struggling for form.

Dolehide’s Hoping to Break Main Draw Jinx

It’s been more than 12 months since Dolehide last won a match in the main draw of a tournament, and coincidentally it had come in Mexico as well. Since then she has been a part of a few qualifiers, made it to the main draws of WTA competitions but never won her openers.

This year, Dolehide started off with a first round loss at the Australian Open qualifiers but still was one of the players who travelled to the country to feature in the Yarra Valley Classic competition. There she fell to Vera Zvonareva in straight sets, then featured in an ITF competition in USA where Dolehide made it as far as the second round alone.

To get to the main draw here, Dolehide has needed back to back, three-set wins, including one with two tie-breakers against Olga Govortsova but can she now convert that into a surprise victory over Bouchard?

Bouchard v Dolehide Prediction and Tip

Interesting to note that Dolehide starts off a favourite at 4/5 and this could be to do with Bouchard having played so few matches in recent times. Backing the Canadian to shade this contest though.

Tip: Bouchard to win: 1/1 (bet365)
