Ons Jabeur v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
While they have never played on the WTA tour, there has been one meeting between them before this and that came on the ITF circuit at La Marsa in 2016. Jabeur had won that clay court encounter in three sets.

While Elena Rybakina will be the first to admit she hasn’t been in the best of form in recent times, Jabeur displayed extreme pugnacity in overcoming her opponent in three, gruelling sets to set up a third round match.
Jabeur, who had earlier brushed aside Katerina Siniakova in the first round, edged past Rybakina 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-2 in two hours and 19 minutes to ensure her win.
The first set went on serve till 4-4 when Jabeur finally broke through to take a 5-4 lead only to be broken back as she served for the set. The tie-breaker that followed soon after saw both players get their chances – first when Jabeur went 3-1 up and then when Rybakina responded with a 5-4 lead.
It was Jabeur who clinched the set though off her second set-point.
Rybakina turned the tide in the second set with an early break of serve and while she was broken back soon after, the Kazakh sealed the advantage with another break in the ninth game of the set.
A delicious encounter looked to be in prospect in the third set when things went to serve over the first five games only for Jabeur to race away with back to back breaks, helping her clinch the final set 6-2
Jabeur has had a decent season so far but in none of the four previous tournaments she has played so far has she won more than two matches in a tournament. Will this be her chance?

Teichmann Benefits from Kvitova Injury
Petra Kvitova had come into the match with a title in Doha under her belt from the previous week but Teichmann benefitted from some good tennis and her opponent’s fitness issues to come through to the third round. Swiss player Teichmann was leading 6-2, 3-4 when Kvitova retired from the match because of a thigh injury.
Kvitova later admitted it was a problem she had been facing since the semifinal of the WTA Doha but one way or the other, Teichmann looked to have done well to keep ploughing on and not lose her own rhythm in the encounter.
Earlier, Teichmann had disposed off Katarina Zavatska in the opening round as well, winning 6-1, 6-2 but now faces a very strong challenge, especially if Jabeur is fully fit.
The good news for Teichmann is she looks to have found her rhythm with a quarterfinal appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy and a semifinal in the Adelaide International. She won’t give up that easily despite her opponent’s higher quality.

Jabeur is an obvious favourite at 4/9 to win this but we think Teichmann could surprise a few people here.
