Svetlana Kuznetsova v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

There have been no previous matches held between these two players before this.

Kuznetsova Stuns Svitolina

Having gotten past Wang Qiang in the first round, Kuznetsova was in early strife in her second round match against Elina Svitolina. When Svitolina won the first set of the match 6-2, it seemed like the match was going to script, with the Ukrainian living up to her 3/10 favourite odds to win the match.

It was only from the second set onward did the match take a turn for the better for the Russian, and that too after Svitolina had gone up a break early in the set. Kuznetsova broke right back to level the set at 1-1, and then while serving to stay in the set at 4-5, Svitolina was broken by the Russian to level things up.

The third set was all one-way traffic with the Russian racing off to a 5-0 lead, and while Svitolina managed to win a game at that stage, it was a matter of too little, too late.

Kuznetsova, who hasn’t gone past the second round here in Dubai since 2012, will be mighty chuffed to have done one better, especially given her form hasn’t been at the best this season. Can she now take down a player ranked lower than her?

Krejcikova Cruises Past Ostapenko

It took Krejcikova just an hour and 13 minutes to come through her second round match against Jelena Ostapenko, beating her Latvian opponent 6-3, 6-1. This followed  a shock win over Maria Sakkari in the opening encounter for Krejcikova.

Krejcikova slammed five aces and won 58% of her first serve points – as compared to 44% for Ostapenko – and broke her opponent each of the five times she got an opportunity to leave her with not a lot of chance. While Ostapenko herself got five seven chances, Krejcikova saved all but one of them.

This result comes on the back of Krejcikova’s inability to qualify for the main draw of the WTA Doha last week, and having been bundled out of the Australian Open in the second round.

With a career-best rank of 59th in the world before this tournament, Krejcikova would have now moved better than that having begun the week at 63rd on the charts but the big question is if she can push on and make it better than ever for herself.

Kuznetsova v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is 4/7 to win this but we cannot discount Kuznetsova’s form and once she gets into some sort of a roll, there is very little stopping her. We could see a three-setter here between two tough opponents.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
