Casper Ruud v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head

These players have faced off at the highest level but did play two matches at a lower level including one in the Futures, in 2015 and another at Koblenz Challenger in 2019. Interestingly, both the matches were won by Griekspoor, who is currently ranked 154th in the world as compared to the 25th-ranked Ruud.

Ruud Sizzles against Galan

Ruud, who was playing his first match since falling in the fourth round of the Australian Open, needed just an hour and nine minutes to carve out a straight-set win over Daniel Galan.

The Norwegian player won 6-4, 6-1, overcoming a solid start from his opponent before breaking him thrice in four service games.

Things went to serve till 5-4 in the first set before Ruud took advantage of a nervous Galan service game to win the set. And with the first set lost, Galan’s serving began to get more erratic as his first serve percentage dropped from 64% in the opening set to 47% in the second.

What Ruud also did very well across both the sets was to never come close to losing his own serve, facing not a single break-point in the entire match. In the end, an easy win did justice to the level at which the world number 25 played and he will be looking to now enter his first quarterfinal since the previous year’s Hamburg Open.

Griekspoor Beats Kudla. Again.

In order to make it to the main draw of this competition, Griekspoor needed to win three qualifying matches, including a second round encounter against Thanai Kokkinakis and a third round match against Denis Kudla.

Kudla still managed to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser and as ‘luck’ would have it, was drawn to face Griekspoor yet again in their opening round match. And this time around, the match got a lot closer than the qualifying round.

The opening set went to serve and in the tie-breaker, Griekspoor took a 3-0 lead, lost the lead and then closed out the tie-breaker 7-4. Kudla retaliated with an early break in the second, lost serve in the sixth game only to break back and convert the fourth set-point to level the proceedings.

In the third, however, there was no looking back for Griekspoor who needed just one break of serve to close out the encounter.

Ruud v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward win for Ruud despite clay being his preferred surface. Expecting him to come through in straight sets

Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
