Daria Kasatkina v Margarita Gasparyan Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 23-year-old Kasatkina and the 26-year-old Gasparyan.

Kasatkina Rallies to Beat Kuznetsova

Daria Kasatkina fought back from a set down for the third day in a row to topple the fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinal of the St. Petersburg Open on Saturday.

After being broken thrice in the first set, Kasatkina turned the tables in the next two, not facing a single break point while converting five of six break opportunities to oust the 35-year-old former World No. 2, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 in an hour and 38 minutes.

The win improved Kasatkina to 14-4 this year as she reached her second final of 2021, having won the Phillip Island Trophy last month.

A three-time WTA winner, Kasatkina began her St. Petersburg campaign with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) win over Denmark’s Clara Tauson, but since that first round win the 23-year-old has had to score three come-from-behind wins to reach her seventh career final.

The World No. 61 defeated Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in the Round of 16 and then knocked out the second seed Veronika Kudermetova 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Saturday’s win was the fifth time in the last two months that Kasatkina had to bounce back after losing the first set. She did that against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the Round of 16 of the Phillip Island Trophy and then beat Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova in the title clash despite losing the first set.

Kasatkina, who won titles in Charleston and Moscow in 2017 and 2018 respectively, lost in the second round of the Australian Open, and reached the third rounds of Abu Dhabi Open and the Gippsland Trophy in the other tournaments this season. The only tournament where she failed to make any impact was in Dubai last week, as she went down to Alize Cornet in the first round.

Gasparyan Holds Off Zvoroneva

Facing Kasatkina in the final will be Maragarita Gasparyan, who knocked out Vera Zvoroneva in a semifinal contest between the two wildcards on Saturday.

Saving four set points in the second set, the 26-year-old Gasparyan reached her third WTA final with a 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) win in an hour and 59 minutes.

Yet to lose a singles final, Gasparyan, who won the titles in Baku in 2015 and Tashkent in 2018, will be featuring in her first WTA 500 final.

The 26-year-old, who went winless in Melbourne earlier this year, found some form in Lyon, where she got her first main draw win of the year over Katerina Zavatska, before going down to Kristina Mladenovic in the Round of 16.

The World No. 126, however, got her revenge over Mladenovic in the first round at St. Petersburg, defeating the Frenchwoman 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-1. Gasparyan then beat Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 before knocking out the top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinal.

Kasatkina v Gasparyan Prediction and Tip

Both players have displayed solid form in St. Petersburg and both will be eager to win another title. However, Kasatkina will hold the edge as she has been in terrific form this season, has also won a title and displayed her ability to thrive under pressure.

Tip: Kastkina to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
