Jannik Sinner v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the players. They met earlier this month in Dubai where Sinner came back from a set down to win in three sets.

Sinner Goes From Strength To Strength

It has been a mixed start to the season for the Italian teenager Jannik Sinner. After a good last season and a half, he has been earmarked as one of the Next Gen to look out for and looked very much on course, given his form at the start of the season ATP 250 in Melbourne, where he won his second career title.

With the tightly packed schedule in Australia, the Italian ran into Denis Shapovalov in the opener at the Melbourne slam less than 36 hours after winning his Melbourne 250 title. He nearly gave Shapovalov a scare before bowing out in a tough five-setter in that first round match at the year’s first major.

This was followed by an opening round loss to Aljaz Bedene in the Montpellier opener and suddenly the season was not looking so promising anymore. A minor niggle saw him pull of Rotterdam, but the Italian had a much better week in Marseille, before losing in the quarter-finals to the newly crowned world number two and eventual champion Daniil Medvedev.

With impressive wins in Dubai against Roberto Bautista Agut and Alexander Bublik, Sinner fell at the hands of eventual champion Aslan Karatsev. He has again looked good this week and for the second time this year won a high quality match against Karen Khachanov of Russia. In his first Masters 1000 quarter-final, Sinner will be hoping to continue the journey with his eyes on a solid run leading into the weekend.

Talented Bublik Looking For More Consistency

The 23-year-old charismatic Alexander Bublik is yet to win a title on the tour, but has reached four finals, two of which were early this year.  Beginning the year in Antalya, Bublik won four matches on the trot to reach the final. However, an injury forced him to withdraw from the title clash after just two games in the match, handing Alex Di Minaur his fourth career title.

The Kazakh reached his second final of the year in Singapore last month, but remained title-less after going down to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in a three-set final. Despite pulling off an impressive win against Alexander Zverev in Rotterdam, it was an early departure for Bublik and so was the case in Doha and Dubai, including a three-set loss to Jannik Sinner after wining the first set 6-2.

Bublik has looked good this week, and put up a strong showing in the fourth round against American Taylor Fritz to come back after losing the first set and pulling off a win to put him in the final eight.

Sinner v Bublik Prediction and Tip

This makes for a good match-up between two very different personalities with a lot of talent, the unruffled soft spoken Sinner and the charismatic Bublik. It will really come down to whose better on the day, but Sinner has the slightly better all round game and has been more consistent in recent times. Expect a close three-setter with the Italian prevailing.

Tip: Sinner to win in three sets: 11/4 (bet365)
