Vickery’s Last Win Came in September 2020

Such have been Vickery’s struggles that the former world number 73 hasn’t won a single main draw match on the WTA level since September 2020. The American last clinched a match in the first round of the US Open last season and while she pushed Iga Swiatek in the second, a win has remained elusive since.

Earlier this season, she failed to make it through to the Australian Open, losing in the qualifiers and then lost in the very first round of the qualifying again in Guadalajara. Her only victory came on the ITF circuit and even there, in the only tournament she played, Vickery was bundled out in the second round of the competition in Boca Raton.

As a result, Vickery who was 113th in the world in 2019, has now fallen nearly 70 places despite WTA having made it difficult to lose one’s rankings following the pandemic.

Making it worse for Vickery is her record on clay which has seen win just 9 of last 29 matches on the surface across all competitions. Can she turn things around here?

Serrano at Her Career Best

A former junior ITF world number one, it’s not taken Serrani long to get on to the highest level and with three ITF titles under her belt in the period between 2018 and 2019, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise the 19-year-old is currently ranked 180th in the world. It’s also her career-best ranking.

What’s interesting is all three of her titles also came on clay and her wins at the WTA level have also been on the same surface.

Serrano won her first ever WTA tour match at the Bogota Open in 2019, making it all the way through to the quarterfinal where she fell to Amanda Anisimova. In 2020, she made it to the second round of the Prague Open where she went down fighting to Nadia Podoroska.

Now is her chance to add to that victory count at her home competition again, and Serrano starts off as bit of a favourite here too. A win for the Colombia looks like a very doable thing here.

Vickery v Serrano Prediction and Tip

Serrano is a whopping 1/4 to win this and 4/6 to do that in straight sets. We have to go with that given the kind of form on offer from both the players, especially on clay.

Tip: Serrano to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
