Ons Jabeur v Hailey Baptiste Head to Head

This will be the first time when the 26-year-old Jabeur will face the 19-year-old Baptiste.

Jabeur Makes Short Work of Trevisan

World No. 28 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia began her Charleston Open campaign in style as she knocked out Italy’s Martina Trevisan in the first round on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Tunisian needed just 58 minutes to hand the Italian left-hander her ninth defeat in 10 matches, including the qualifiers, this year.

The 2018 Moscow finalist dominated the proceedings, converting six of eight break points while saving one of three to win the contest 6-2, 6-2 and improve to 11-6 in 2021.

The first Arab woman to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, Jabeur has reached the Round of 16 in five of her previous six tournaments this year but hasn’t been able to advance to the last eight. In 2020, the hard-hitting right-hander had reached six quarterfinals without proceeding to the final four.

The only tournament this year when she exited in the Round of 32 was the Australian Open, where she was sent packing by eventual champion Naomi Osaka.

Among her Round of 16 defeats, Jabeur lost to Aryna Sabalenka in Abu Dhabi, Angelique Kerber at the Grampians Trophy, Karolina Pliskova in Doha, Jil Teichmann in Dubai and Sara Sorribes Tormo in Miami.

Baptiste Overcomes Dolehide

Facing Jabeur in the second round will be America’s Hailey Baptiste, who overpowered compatriot Caroline Dolehide in the first round.

The 19-year-old Baptiste, ranked 216th in the world, needed an hour and 17 minutes to beat the World No. 155, 6-3, 6-3.

While Baptiste could save only one of four break points she faced, she broke her opponent six times from nine break point opportunities.

A three-time winner on the ITF circuit, Baptiste has won two of those on hard courts and one on clay.

The 2018 U.S. Open junior doubles finalist, Baptiste began the season by winning her first qualifying round at the Australian Open, but was knocked out in the next round.

At the Miami Open, she ousted Japan’s Miasaki Doi and Belgium’s Greet Minnen to qualify for the main draw before losing a close opening round contest to Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova.

Baptiste also featured in three ITF events this year, reaching the semifinals in Boca Raton in February.

Ons Jabeur v Hailey Baptiste Prediction and Tip

Jabeur’s experience and current form gives her the edge in this contest against Baptiste. The Tuisian shouldn’t have much trouble in dispatching the American and making a sixth round of 16 appearance this year, where she could face either seventh seed Elise Mertens of Belgium or France’s Alize Cornet.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 8/15 (bet365)
