Errani Aiming for Fifth Quarterfinal in a Row

The last four times Errani has featured in this tournament in Bogota, she has made it to the last eight stage and this will be her chance to make it five in five. Playing her opener against Sara Sorribes Tormo, she was a whopping 7/2 to win the match but the Italian, a former French Open finalist and world number five, crashed into her opponent’s party with a fighting but straight-set win.

Errani needed more than two hours to get past Sorribes Tormo 7-5, 7-5 to seal a chance to make it to the last eight.

Both players struggled with the conditions and found it difficult to hold their serve, as Errani squandered an early break in both sets. In the first, Errani and Sorribes Tormo traded six straight breaks of serves and then following one hold to make it 4-4, broke each other yet again to make it 5-5.

It was Errani’s hold in the 11th game that tilted the match in her favour as her Spanish opponent failed to do the same and lost the set.

Errani raced off to a 5-1 lead in the second, dropped four games in a row and then held to love to force Sorribes Tormo to serve it out to take it to a tie-breaker. The Spaniard saved a couple of break-points before Errani clinched the match off her third.

Can she now get past a player who has never been a part of the top-80 in her career?

Bolsova Surprises Karolina Schmiedlova

Five of Bolsova’s six ITF titles have come on clay, which meant that despite having won just one main draw match all season, all of which had come on hard courts before this tournament, she couldn’t quite be written off.

And which is why despite starting out ad 6/4 odds to win this, Bolsova came through to defeat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, completing a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win in her opening round match.

In a match lasting slightly over two hours, an early exchange of breaks was followed by Bolsova clinching a decisive break in the ninth game of the opening set. Karolina Schmiedlova came back to take a 4-0 lead in the second set before surrendering one break advantage back but still levelled the scoreline.

And when she broke Bolsova yet again in the opening game, it looked like the Slovak would run away with the contest. The running away did happen but it was from the other end when Bolsova won the next six games in a row including three successive breaks of serve to complete the victory.

Errani v Bolsova Prediction and Tip

Expect a fighting contest but one which sees Errani come through to win it given her solidity on this surface.

Tip: Errani to win: 11/10 (bet365)
