Stefanie Voegele v Maria Camila Osorio Serrano Head to Head

Voegele and Serrano have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Voegele Wins Back to Back Matches

It’s been a while since Voegele did that and she would be relieved to have won successive matches in the main draw of a WTA event.

The last time Voegele managed two wins in a row came in a WTA $125k event at Newport Beach last year, but the rest of the previous season might have been bit of a blur for the Swiss player as she struggled to stitch together any victories. In fact, she finished 2020 with just one main draw win all year other than that Newport Beach Open runnerup trophy.

This year, her falling ranking pushed Voegele into playing on the ITF circuit for a tournament after failing to qualify for the Australian Open but she then won her first main draw match of the year at the Lyon Open.

And here, in Bogota, she has tripled that count with back to back victories.

In the first round, Voegele had needed to overcome a set deficit to get past Chloe Paquet before crushing the 49th-ranked Saisai Zheng 6-4, 6-1. Can she now overcome a player ranked a few places behind her on the WTA charts?

Serrano Makes the Quarterfinal Again

Just 19 years of age, Serrano has made it to the quarterfinal of the Bogota Open for the second edition running. And this time around she has already overcome one of the pre-tournament favourites to get there.

Facing Tereza Martincova in her second round match, Serrano was 7/5 to win that match and she still came through in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The encounter lasted an hour and 39 minutes, and saw Serrano come back from a break down in the first set to break her opponent twice to clinch the opening set.

And that was followed by another couple of breaks off the Serrano racquet which saw her ease into the last eight. In all, she saved 11 of the 13 break-points she faced in the entire match while breaking her opponent five times.

Can she now get past Voegele, a far more experienced player than her on the circuit?

Voegele v Serrano Prediction and Tip

Serrano starts off a favourite at 4/7 and given her form, we will be backing her youth over her opponent’s experience.

Tip: Serran to win: 4/7 (bet365)
