Astra Sharma v Linda Fruhvirtova Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 25-year Australian, and the Czech teenager, who is ten years younger.

Sharma Battles on in Charleston

Having continued the recent terrible run of the Chinese player Yafan Wang in the first round, Sharma had a much tougher battle with the world 82, and former top 40 player, Madison Brengle of the USA in the second round on Thursday.

The Australian began well, after the pair exchanged service breaks early in the firsts et. She broke Brengle again to wrap up the first set in 40 minutes.

And when she forced two more breaks at the start of the second, she appeared set for an easy victory. Brengle, though had other ideas, broke back, and then broke twice more to level the match.

After several ling games, it was Sharma who faltered first in the third set, dropping her serve. But she recovered the break, and then, decisively broke the American once more. She served out for the match, securing the win with her second match point.

Teenager Fruhvirtova Continues Her Run

Although she is still only 15, big things are expected of the 15-year-old Czech who was given a wildcard in Charleston.

She had a slice of fortune on the first round, when her opponent, Alize Cornet of France, the number four seed, was forced to retire injured from their match which was delicately poised at the time – one set all, and four games each in the decider.

There was nothing lucky about her win over Emma Navarro of the USA on Thursday, a women ranked 95 places higher than her in the world.

The pair swapped early service breaks in the first set, and when Fruhvirtova dropped her serve again, Navarro seemed in control.  But the teenager levelled with another break, and then took the set when Navarro failed to hold once more.

Again, the pair swapped breaks at the start of the second set, but then Fruhvirtova forced another break. Navarro served to stay in the match, but offered up another break point which Fruhvirtova converted to seal the win.

Sharma v Fruhvirtova Prediction and Tip

Sharma is tipped to win this by dint of the fact that she is ranked 334 places higher than her opponent in the world, and has ten years more experience. She should not take the threat of the Czech teenager lightly though.

Tip: Sharma to win: 4/7 (bet365)
