Maria Camila Osorio Serrano v Astra Sharma Head to Head

Serrano Continues Her Unbeaten Run

It is a well known fact that luck plays a major role in a tennis player’s rise. For Serrano, this fact has been far more visible this week as the Colombian has found her way back from near impossible situations on the court. While, in her first round encounter against No. 2 seed Magda Linette, Serrano was down 3-5 in the final set before capturing the last four games of the contest to move into the next round.

In the second round, Serrano was staring at defeat as she was a set and a break down against Christina McHale of the United States. In fact, McHale served for the match not once, but twice, however, she wasn’t unable to do so. Eventually, Serrano won two tiebreakers and the match to march on to the quarters.

Serrano’s good fortune continued in the quarterfinals as well as this time her rival Clara Tauson of Denmark, pulled out of the match with a left knee injury. Although, it was a sad end to a contest that looked quite promising before it started, Serrano would have been really happy with her performance as she was leading 6-4, 1-0 before Tauson retired from the match.

With her victory over Tauson, Osorio Serrano extended her winning streak to eight matches in 11 days, including a WTA title in Bogota last week.

Speaking about her semifinal run in Charleston this week, Serrano said: “I wasn’t expecting to be in the semifinal of this tournament. I’m proud of what I’m doing. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow but, as always, I’ll do my best.”

Sharma Outplays Fruhvirtova in the Quarters

Standing in between Osorio Serrano and a place in the final is the supremely talented Australian Astra Sharma, who outplayed 15-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals on Friday.

25-year-old Sharma was born in Singapore and was an All-American player, while studying at the Vanderbilt University. She is now representing Australia on the women’s circuit and even though, she is considered to be a doubles specialist, her singles game has seen a remarkable rise in the last few years.

With her comfortable win over 499th-ranked Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic, Sharma made it through to her third WTA quarterfinal ever. But, the biggest highlight of her career has been an appearance in the final of the WTA tournament in Bogota in 2019. Her quarterfinal triumph in Charleston took her win/loss record to 5-4 in 2021.

“I think I’ve just kept it very simple, tried to use my physicality on court,” Sharma told reporters after her win over Fruhvirtova. “Really, trying to push the opponents around. I think I’ve always utilized that well in a defensive way, but I’m trying to using that more offensively.”

Osorio Serrano v Sharma Prediction and Tip

Osorio Serrano is expected to win this encounter because she is on an eight match winning streak. Besides, she has found her way back, whenever she has had her back to the wall in the tournament. But, she shouldn’t take the Australian’s challenge lightly as she has the experience to stretch her to the limits. Expecting an Osorio Serrano win in three tough sets.
