Petra Martic v Fiona Ferro Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Zhengzhou Open and Martic had won that second round match on a hard court surface in three sets.

She had come into this season ranked 18th in the world, Martic’s performances so far have been so underwhelming she would have fallen to worse than her current ranking of 21st had it not been for the tweaked WTA ranking system.
Because other than a quarterfinal appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy, she won just two other matches – opening round victories at the Yarra Valley Classic and Adelaide International.
What’s made it worse for Martic is her performances at the big tournaments – the Australian Open and the Miami Open – where she lost her openers. And both those losses came at the hands of players ranked outside the top 100 in the world.
Martic is a sold clay-courter though. A semifinal at the Palermo Open and then a third round appearance at the French Open was on show last year but her best showing came in 2019 when she won the Istanbul Open and made it as far as the quarterfinal in Roland-Garros.

Ferro on a Three-Match Losing Streak
Things haven’t gone too well for Ferro more recently after she had started off the season with a third round appearance at the Australian Open and a semifinal at the Lyon Open.
A defeat there in Lyon was followed by back to back losses in the first round at the St. Petersburg Open and the Miami Open.
The change in environment, featuring on clay, will be a welcome one for the Frenchwoman though. Both her WTA titles have come on dirt, including one last season at Palermo. She also made it as far as the fourth round of the French Open last season and has been a consistent feature in quarterfinals of WTA events on clay.
Interestingly she is facing a player who is equally adept on clay and is a few spots ahead of her on the WTA ladder. Can she get past such an opponent despite her sky-high confidence?
