John Millman v Taro Daniel Head to Head
These two have faced off twice at the highest level of tennis, and it’s 1-1 on head to head. Both those matches came on hard court surfaces with Daniel winning in the first round of the 2018 Winston-Salem Open and Millman levelling it in the Tokyo Open quarterfinals the following year.
These players had also faced off on the Challenger circuit and both those matches were won by Millman. The duo has yet to face off on clay.

Millman Sees off Petrovic
In a rare victory for Millman, he overcame Danilo Petrovic in the first round of this competition, defeating the Serb 7-5, 6-4 to move into the second.
Why rare? Because that was only his fourth win this season, to go with eight losses but what has been good to see is this is the third successive first round win on clay for the Aussie.
Millman has already edged past Federico Coria in Cagliari, then overcame Ugo Humbert in Monte-Carlo Masters before winning against Petrovic here.
What needs to be seen is if Millman can break the run of second round defeats this time, having lost to Laslo Djere and Cristian Garin in the previous couple of tournaments. The good news is his opponent this time around isn’t as pedigreed as the aforementioned duo, giving the Aussie a better shot at getting through to the last eight.

Daniel Edges Past Sousa
Daniel had been sent packing in the second qualifying round of this tournament but came through to the main draw as a lucky loser. And he then got past Joao Sousa in the first round, winning 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 51 minutes.
It wasn’t the easiest of starts for Daniel as he looked like going down in a hurry when he got broken twice in a row to kick-start the set, falling 3-0 behind. The turnaround began in the fourth game when Daniel pulled one break back in the fourth game.
And then with Sousa serving for the set at 5-4, Daniel overcame a set point and converted his fourth break-point to level things out. Another break followed in the 12th game to allow the Japanese player a stunning set win.
The second set was smoother for Daniel, a break in the fourth game was all he needed to convert it into a win.
This was only Daniel’s second main draw win of the season; can he overcome Millman to go further than that now?
Millman v Daniel Prediction and Tip
Millman starts off a favourite here at 8/11 and he will be our pick to get past Daniel who has already struggled to make it to the main draw in this competition and all year.
Tip: Millman to win: 8/11 (bet365)
