Andrey Rublev v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

There have three previous matches played between these players and Rublev leads 2-1. Ramos-Vinolas’ only win came on the grass courts of Wimbledon in 2017 while most recently, they had faced off in 2019 at the Winston-Salem Open and the Russian had come through in three sets.

Rublev Easy Winner over Gaio

Rublev was coming into his opening match here after having made it all the way to the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters. A favourite there to win, Rublev had fallen to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final but had oozed enough talent during the entire competition for some to suggest he could well be the next big-ticket player at Grand Slam tennis.

With a very short turnaround time, even an opening opponent like Federico Gaio would have been bit of a challenge but Rublev brushed aside any of such thoughts with a 6-4, 6-3 win. He was on court for an hour and 24 minutes.

The first set looked to be a hard-fought one for a while, with neither player getting any breaking opportunities for the first eight games in the set. Rublev then saved two break-points in the ninth game before breaking Gaio as he served to stay in the set.

Gaio then stunned Rublev by drawing first blood, breaking Rublev in the third game but the Russian took back the advantage with an immediate break and then broke to love in the eighth game to carve out an easy win.

In Ramos-Vinolas, he has a tricky opponent to endure.

Ramos-Vinolas Continues to Prosper

A former world number 17, Ramos-Vinolas has prospered on clay this season, having reached the final of the Cordoba Open and having made it as far as the semifinal of the Buenos Aires Open.

Coming into the Barcelona Open, he had a tricky opening match against Holger Rune, in which he needed three sets and two tie-breakers to get past but came into his own in the second round.

Facing Adrian Mannarino, he registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory to seal his third round place, already bettering his 2019 season’s Barcelona Open second round appearance.

And while he now faces one of the biggest challenges in the world at the moment, Ramos-Vinolas will be confident of putting up a fight. Whether he can actually surprise Rublev will depend on his opponent to a large extent but the Spaniard does have a game to take advantage of a misstep from his opponent.

Rublev v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

While Ramos-Vinolas is 7/2 to win this, we are more interested in the games market or if the Spaniard can win a set here. We will be going with the latter.

Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win a set – Yes: 6/4 (bet365)
