Simona Halep v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
Three previous meetings between these two players have resulted in Alexandrova leading Halep 2-1. All three have come on hard court surfaces including a match earlier this season at the Gippsland Trophy where the Russian crushed Halep 6-2, 6-1.

Marketa Vondrousova’s form, her overall performances on clay and Halep’s recent fitness struggles added up to a possibility of a difficult opening encounter for the second seeded Romanian. Instead, what followed was a crushing win for Halep, who came through 6-1, 6-3 to set up this quarterfinal.
After receiving a first round bye, Halep spent a mere 57 minutes on court for her quarterfinal win and faced no trouble whatsoever in a majorly tepid performance from Vondrousova.
After Vondrousova had held her serve in the first game of the first set, Halep ran off with the next seven games in a row before her Czech opponent could win another game. That came in the second set as Vondrousova kept hanging in with Halep for a while but in the eighth game, she fell 0-40 behind.
Halep converted the second of those three break-points and then served out the match to march into the last eight. The Romanian second seed, who has a rare French Open-Wimbledon double to her name, will start off as a huge favourite against her Russian opponent in this one.

Alexandrova Ousts Bencic in Second Round
While Alexandrova had gone into her previous round match as a second favourite (11/10 at bet365), we had a strong inkling she had shown solid form to consider her a chance to upset Belinda Bencic. It turned out to be exactly like that.
Alexandrova came through in straight sets, defeating her Swiss opponent 6-1, 7-5 to progress to the quarterfinal and take on a bigger challenge.
Having earlier needed three sets to eke out a first round win over Karolina Muchova, Alexandrova was on court for an hour and 23 minutes to defeat Bencic.
It turned out to be a cakewalk in the first set with Alexandrova not facing a single break-point and going on to break her opponent twice, while in the second she got herself a decisive break in the 11th game before serving it out off the next.
This makes it one of her best starts on clay but against Halep it would be interesting to see if she can put up a brave face.
Halep v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Halep is a solid favourite here at 3/10 and 4/5 to win it in straight sets, but a viable option is the games handicap market.
