Novak Djokovic v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Only one previous meeting has been recorded between Djokovic and Karatsev before this and that came at the Australian Open earlier this year. Djokovic won that match in straight sets to proceed to the final.

While Miomir Kecmanovic has had his successes on clay, he proved to be no match for the world number Djokovic in their quarterfinal on Friday. Djokovic dropped just four games in his victory over his fellow Serbian countryman, needing just an hour and 16 minutes to march into the last eight.

The first set went to script as Djokovic broke Kecmanovic in the second and sixth game, before serving it out for the set. An early break in the second set is all that Djokovic needed in the second set but he made it a second break to take a 5-2 lead.

Kecmanovic showed some late resurrection by breaking back once but Djokovic completed the win in the next game.

The world number one Djokovic had incidentally defeated Soon-woo Kwon by the same scoreline, winning 6-3, 6-1 in the second round following a first round bye.

Djokovic had earlier crashed out of the Monte-Carlo Masters in the third round and looks to have come out with vengeance to try and win his home tournament for the first time on return.

Karatsev 19-4 This Season

After getting a bye in first round and winning his second round match against Aljaz Bedene in three, tough sets, Karatsev finally had something to celebrate this week as he registered a straight-set win over Gianluca Mager in the quarterfinal.

Karatsev won 6-3, 6-4 to march into the semifinal where he will face the world number one but one who recently showed some vulnerabilities on clay.

The Russian was on court for an hour and 25 minutes and broke his opponent thrice in the entire match to carve out the win. It started with a quick break in the first set, as early as in the second game, which Karatsev managed to hold on to till the end of the set.

In the second, the pair exchanged breaks of serves in the fifth and sixth game but Karatsev then broke Mager yet again in the ninth game to take the lead. He served it out in the very next game to advance.

It wouldn’t remain that easy for Djokovic but as things stand it wouldn’t be easy.

Djokovic v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is a huge favourite to win this while Karatsev looks like temping odds to go all the way. Better option is opt for a set for the Russain.

Tip: Karatsev to win a set: 4/6 (bet365)
