Felix Auger-Aliassime v Casper Ruud Head to Head

Auger-Aliassime leads the head-to-head 2-1, winning their first match on the clay courts of the Lyon Challenger back in 2017, and their most recent match in 2019 at Miami Masters.

Auger-Aliassime Continues Reunion with Toni Nadal

After one of the most talked-about coaching partnerships in tennis, where Felix Auger-Aliassime linked up with Toni Nadal, the jury is out on whether the young Canadian will now scale the final hurdles.

But before then, much of their time will revolve around improving Auger-Aliassime’s burgeoning game. Uncle Toni, who equated the attitude displayed by the 20-year-old to that of his nephew, has seen a lot of potential exhibited by one of the game’s brightest upstarts.

Their partnership officially commenced in Monte Carlo where Auger-Aliassime made an underwhelming start with a first-round loss to Cristian Garin. But he took it up a notch in Barcelona, beating fellow Next Gens Lorenzo Musetti and Denis Shapovalov.

His run was ended by eventual finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

This will be the Canadian’s second visit to the Madrid Open. In 2019, he was knocked out, incidentally, by Rafael Nadal..

Ruud Reaches Bavaria Semifinal

Casper Ruud’s stock has been rising sharply in recent months. Sitting at a career-high world ranking of No. 24, the young Norwegian is developing a reputation of the ultimate opportunist, but he is still chasing a first final of the season.

Ruud had a tremendous week in Monte Carlo, which was slightly overshadowed by Britain’s Dan Evans who performed spectacularly beyond his capabilities on a clay court to reach the semifinals at the Principality.

The 22-year-old arrives in Madrid (where he is set for his main draw debut) with a 12-5 record for the season, that includes one top-10 win (over Diego Schwartzman in Monte Carlo).

Ruud’s conditioning has been one his major challenges in his tennis career. He was heavy legged in his most recent loss which came at the BMW Open in Munich. The World No. 24 was beaten comprehensively in straight sets by Nikoloz Basilashvili in the last four.

Auger-Aliassime v Ruud Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime will be desperate to make an impact in Madrid under the watchful eyes of Toni Nadal. There have been spasmodic flashes of what he is capable of doing on clay and he should be far too solid for a weary Ruud.
