Cristian Garin v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Adelaide International and Harris had won that first round encounter in three sets.

Garin Coming off Madrid Quarterfinal

A clay court specialist, Garin has already had a solid season on this surface and that reflects on his winning odds for this encounter. The Chilean had earlier won his fifth career title in Santiago, making it five tournament wins on clay too, and followed that up with a third round appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

While Garin struggled to get going at both, the Barcelona Open and ATP Estoril, he is coming off a solid showing in Madrid.

The Chilean number one registered wins over Fernando Verdasco, Dominik Koepfer and Daniil Medvedev to reach his first ever Masters 1000 quarterfinal.

He looked to have taken a step towards entering the semifinal there when he won the first set against Matteo Berrettini but his Italian opponent then took control, winning the next two 6-3, 6-0 to stall his progress.

Garin will start things off here in Rome knowing he can do a lot better than his previous best of a first round exit at the Italian Open.

Harris Solid This Year But Clay Not His Court

Harris broke into the top 50 of the ATP rankings recently and that was thanks to his performances on hard court tournaments earlier this year.

A third round at the Australian Open but more vitally, making the final of the ATP Dubai 2021 after starting out as a qualifier propelled him towards his career-best. The latter included wins against Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov before he fell to Aslan Karatsev.

Unfortunately for Harris, his performances on clay haven’t been much to write about. His overall clay court record reads an abysmal 2-8 with one of those wins coming this year in Madrid.

While he faced two defeats on the same surface, a first round loss at Estoril and a second round at the Madrid Masters, that win over Grigor Dimitrov would provide some respite. Not sure if that helps him too much against a player of the calibre of Garin though.

Garin v Harris Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward win for Garin who starts off at 4/11 and is 5/6 to get there in straight sets. The latter result seems highly likely.
