Petra Martic v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
The pair have met once before earlier this year in the Melbourne warm-up event, the Yarra ValleyN Classic, Rogers winning inn straight sets.

.Martic won her solitary WTA title on clay in Istanbul in 2019, having lost two previous finals. Later that same year, she reached the final of the Premier event in Zhengzhou, but was beaten by Karolina Pliskova.
That form though seems elusive this year, and she has struggled on tour.
Following that defeat to Rogers in Yarra Valley, she was knocked out of the Australian Open by a qualifier in the first round, and although she reached the third round of the follow-up Phillip Island trophy, results have been hard to come by for the Croat.
Since her return from Australia, her record is played five, lost five, and her two matches on clay so far this year have both been straight set defeats.

Rogers Glad to Avoid Barty in the Draw
Rogers has never won a senior WTA event, but she has been in two finals, both on clay, losing in Gastein, Austria, in 2014, and in Rio two years later.
That was the same year that she reached the quarter-finals of the French Open, which remains her best performance in a Grand Slam to date.
She will be relieved that she has not been drawn against Ashleigh Barty this time, because four times already in 2021 the world number one has knocked her out of tournaments.
The most recent run in that sequence was in the first round in Madrid last week, but prior to that, it happened in the third round in Charleston, and before that, at the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne.
Barty then went on to beat her in the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Martic v Rogers Prediction and Tip
Based purely on form, Rogers will start the clear favourite against an opponent who has not won a match for more than two months. This also gives us a chance to look at Martic winning a set as a market.
