Felix Auger-Aliassime v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the Barcelona Open played last month and Auger-Aliassime had overcome a first set deficit to bagel Musetti in the final set.

Auger-Aliassime Fighting to Remain in Contention on Clay

It’s not been a straightforward road to success on clay for Auger-Aliassime but the signs of fight have been there.

The Canadian, who had kick-started the season with a final to his name at the Murray River Open where he eventually lost to Dan Evans, did not have the most auspicious of starts on clay this year. He lost to Cristian Garin in the opening round of the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Wins over Musetti and Denis Shapovalov helped Auger-Aliassime make the quarterfinal in Barcelona where Stefanos Tsitsipas got the better of him before he fell in the opener at the Madrid Masters too. This time it was Casper Ruud who had his number.

Another third round appearance followed, and this time it was with wins over Filip Krajinovic and Diego Schwartzman in Rome. The loss to Federico Delbonis after this would have been disappointing but Auger-Aliassime would look to take the positives from his showing in Barcelona and Rome where wins over tricky opponent should help.

Musetti Jumping Through the Rankings Hoops

A little over 12 months ago, Musetti was ranked 364th in the world. Today he is at his career-best ranking of 82nd and that has been down to his results on clay last season and hard court tournaments this year.

Having gone deep in a few Challenger competitions in 2020, he broke through in Rome when as a qualifier Musetti defeated Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori to reach round three last year. A title win at the Forli Challenger and a semifinal at the Sardinia Open followed soon after.

This year Musetti has shown he is no one-trick pony as he galloped into the semifinal at the Acapulco Open, again as a qualifier and with with wins over Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov. Later getting a direct qualification for the Miami Masters, Musetti made it to the third round.

While his recent form on clay has been less than ideal, Musetti will hope to turn things around here as he makes his final preparation for his maiden main draw appearance at the French Open.

Auger-Aliassime v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime is an obvious favourite with the bookmakers but Musetti isn’t one to be trifled with and at 11/10 looks to be a tempting bet. Going for the Italian to cause an upset here.
