Andujar Coming off Geneva Semifinal

After having made it as far as the quarterfinal at the Buenos Aires Open in March, Andujar struggled to get going in any of the clay court events in the lead-up to the last week’s Geneva Open.

There was an opening round win in Barcelona, sure, but other than that, the Spaniard didn’t carve out any other main draw victories, with four opening round losses.

Which is why his performance at the Geneva Open would provide him with some relief. Especially given how well he did to get to that stage.

Not known for too many wins against top-10 players, Andujar registered one of his best results of his career when he came through in three sets against Roger Federer in the second round. And he had followed that up with a three-set win over another Swiss player, Dominic Stricker before falling to Casper Ruud.

He shouldn’t have too many worries here in his opener but from there on can be make it as deep in this competition as well?

Topo Has a Career-High Rank of 1448

Topo’s only 17 at the moment and ranked outside the top 1500 on the ATP charts. But armed with the advantage of having a competition hosted in his home country, Topo will now also feature in his first ever main draw match on the ATP circuit after getting a wild-card from the organisers.

He is one of the three Serbian wild-cards who has gained entry into this competition and would realistically hope for a decent showing.

Topo began playing competitive tennis only last season with a series of exhibition matches during the pandemic before hitting the Futures circuit where he featured in a few.

Earlier this year, Topo then participated in his only competition for the season which also came in Belgrade. It was the Belgrade Challenger, and he fell in the very first qualifier.

The Serb would be a rank outsider coming into this match against Andujar but a fighting performance against the world number 75 should boost his confidence no end.
