Marcos Giron v Flavio Cobolli Head to Head

Since making it as far as the third round of the Murray River Open at the start of the season, Giron’s form has faded away and he has struggled to carve out wins.
Giron’s won just two of the eight main draw matches he has featured in since that tournament and things looked to have come to head when he fell in the Rome Masters qualifiers to Federico Delbonis, losing 6-3, 6-3.
A player ranked outside the top 400, like Cobolli is, might not be the biggest test for Giron but the bigger test for Giron will come in the later rounds.
And for Giron who has won just two career matches on clay, a rasping win here against the Italian wildcard will be a necessity in order for him to give himself a chance of improving his own ranking.

Cobolli Making Seniors Debut
A junior doubles runnerup at the French Open in 2019, Cobolli went on to win that very title the following year and less than a year on he will be playing in his first ever main draw match on the seniors circuit.
His wild-card seems well-deserved too. Already this season, Cobolli has already won his maiden Futures circuit title, and then went on to excel in the two Challenger tournaments he played in after that.
At the Rome 2 Challenger, Cobolli needed to qualify for it before falling in the second round and then stormed into the final of the Roma 5 Challenger, losing only to another teenager Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
More recently he qualified for the Rome Masters qualification but fell to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and then lost his second round match in Biella 7 Challenger.

Giron is the favourite but not by much here with Cobolli starting out at 11/8 to win this. Expect a hard-fought encounter which goes into a third set.
