Krejcikova and Dodin have never played each other before this in a competitive encounter.

Krejcikova Strong in 2021

By the time she takes to court for this opening round match in Strasbourg, Krejcikova will start out as the world number 38, which is her career-best WTA ranking. This, after she started out the season ranked 66 on the WTA charts.

And that has been thanks to her strong performances in 2021, especially on hard court surfaces, with Krejcikova having reached the final of the WTA Dubai competition and following that up with a third round appearance at the Italian Open.

What’s also gone in her favour is her wins over the likes of Maria Sakkari, Jelena Ostapenko, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Sofia Kenin across those two tournaments.

Featuring in her first ever edition of the Strasbourg Open, Krejcikova will hope to take her form from this year into this and the French Open where she had made the fourth round last season – her best ever Grand Slam showing.

Dodin Qualifies Following Horror Clay Run

She did not have too many difficulties in making it to the main draw of this tournament with straightforward, straight-set wins in the qualifiers and that would have come as bit of a relief for Dodin.

That’s because before those two victories that set up this meeting with Krejcikova, Dodin had won just one main draw match on clay this year while losing her openers at two ITF events and failing to win even one qualifier at Madrid and Istanbul.

In fact, the entire season has been like that for Dodin.

From the time she was bundled out in the first qualifying round at the Australian Open, Dodin’s main draw performances on the WTA circuit have been underwhelming to say the least. Her sole win all year came last week in the first round in Belgrade where Dodin defeated Kristyna Pliskova.

A win over Krejcikova would be nothing short of a surprise here.

Krejcikova v Dodin Prediction and Tip

It looks like a straightforward result in favour of Krejcikova with the Czech starting a heavy 2/9 favourite to win this. Expect a straight-set win.
