Shelby Rogers v Jule Niemeier Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Rogers and Niemeier before this encounter in Parma.

Because Rogers had started off at 3/10 to win this against Christina McHale, and she was taken to three sets. She won 7-5, 6-7 (6), 7-5 in a match lasting three hours and 25 minutes, with each set going almost the distance.
Rogers, who had lost three matches in a row coming into this one, broke her opponent eight times in the match, but lost her own serve six times in the process.
She had a match-point in the second set tie-breaker as well serving at 6-5, before losing three points in a row to be taken into the third set. The world number 46 then took a 4-1 lead with two breaks of serve but then lost her serve twice in a row as well, following which she saved a match-point.
A break of serve in the 11th game and Rogers serving it out in the 12th of the final set helped her edge through the contest.

Niemeier Wins Battle of 200+ Ranked Players
Two qualifiers, one ranked 216th in the world and the other 307th faced off in the first round and it was Niemeier who came through in three sets to set up a meeting with Rogers.
And it was her maiden main draw win at the highest level too.
Niemeier came through 6-4, 6-3 against Diane Parry, breaking her four times in the entire match. And while she was herself broken once, Niemeier did not face too many struggles in the encounter as she continued to exhibit the kind of form she had on the ITF tour earlier this year.
Having already won an ITF title on clay this year she will now hope she can put up a fight against Rogers too.
