Roberto Carballes Baena v Federico Delbonis Head to Head
There have been four previous matches between these two players, all of which have come on clay and one apiece in each of the four years between 2018 and 2021. Delbonis has won them all to take a 4-0 lead including one at Marbella earlier this year where he cruised to a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

Carballes Baena in His Second QF of 2021
Since making the second round at the Australian Open, Carballes Baena has opted not to play in a single hard court competition and focussed solely on clay. This includes three Challenger competition appearances, which resulted in the Spaniard adding one more title to his kitty.
That win came at the Belgrade Challenger just prior to the first ever edition of the Belgrade Open earlier this year and he has now added a quarterfinal appearance in this second one at Belgrade.
And his entry into the last eight came on the back of a hard-fought win over Gael Monfils; Carballes Baena winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to squeak into the last eight.
After an easy first set, Carballes Baena was a break up in the second but lost his serve twice to allow Monfils a comeback. It was Monfils who then got himself a 2-0 lead in the decider, only to drop his serve in the sixth game before taking a 4-2 in the tie-breaker.
Carballes Baena crashed into the Monfils party by winning five points in a row from there to pocket the encounter.
His next opponent could prove to be his toughest of this competition though.

Delbonis Continues to Shine in 2021
After a middling sort of a season on clay last year, Delbonis has opted to focus all his attention on this surface this season and like his opponent in this match, played in just two hard court tournaments.
And that strategy seems to have paid dividends for now, with the Argentine on a 22-8 win-loss on clay for the season, albeit with a few wins in qualifiers as well.
More recently, Delbonis made it to the third round at the Madrid Masters and then stormed into the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters – with wins over Pablo Carreno-Busta, Albert Ramos Vinolas, Karen Khachanov, David Goffin and Felix Auger-Aliassime punctuating those two performances.
And now, at Belgrade, he has been pushed to the distance but come stronger against Lukas Klein in the first round and Thiago Monteiro in the second.
Another win here will take him to a much-deserved second semifinal of the season.
Delbonis v Carballes Baena Prediction and Tip
Delbonis is 2/5 to win this, and given his form we will go with that. It’s tough to decipher whether Carballes Baena will have a lot left in his tank after the thrilling three-setter against Monfils but in the same breath one can add Delbonis has also played a couple of three-set matches.
Tip: Delbonis to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
