Elena Rybakina v Elsa Jacquemot Head to Head

Rybakina and Jacquemot have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Rybakina’s Form Falls Away

After two wonderful seasons of tennis which saw Rybakina rise to 17th in the world, her form has fallen away over the last few months and that is something she would like to remedy coming into this competition.

It didn’t look like that at one stage though, as Rybakina won three matches in a row to reach the quarterfinal of the first tournament of her season in Abu Dhabi. Since then, however, the Kazakh has carved out just four wins and suffered eight defeats in 2021 – hardly a record befitting a top-20 player.

On clay, she had reached the final of the Strasbourg Open last season but since then, a second round defeat at the 2020 French Open, an opening loss (down to an injury) in Charleston and a second round defeat in Madrid have all been instances of tennis woes for Rybakina.

Which is why when she walks into this opener against the unheralded and 493rd-ranked Frenchwoman, her confidence wouldn’t be at the levels she would have liked.

Jacquemot on a Four-Match Losing Streak

While she has got herself a wildcard for her home tournament, Jacquemot’s form coming into this French Open hasn’t been very awe-inspiring. And we are talking of the ITF circuit here, a rung lower than the WTA tour.

In fact since reaching the semifinal at the Amiens ITF competition early in March, Jacquemot has won just two of her next nine matches. In the lead-up to this opener against Rybakina, Jacquemot’s lost four in a row including a qualifier at the Strasbourg Open.

A look at Jacquemot’s overall lower-circuit record doesn’t do too much justice to the teenager’s talent too – at least not on the singles circuit (she has a doubles finals in an ITF competition to her name).

Which is why despite her opponent’s struggles, Jacquemot will herself need to rise above the form rubble she finds herself in to cause any damage.

Rybakina v Jacquemot Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is a favourite but at 1/9 we wonder if those odds are too short for comfort. Expect a tighter contest than that, with Jacquemot even possibly winning a set.

Tip: Jacquemot to win a set – Yes: 2/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
