Guido Pella v Daniel Elahi Galan Head to Head

The pair have met once before in a Davis Cup match three years ago. Pella, representing Argentina, beat Galan Riveros, who was playing for Columbia in five sets in clay.

Pella Looking to Improve Paris Record

For a man that has appeared in five clay court finals, and won the Brazil Open two years ago, Pella has a surprisingly poor record at Roland Garros = he has never been beyond the second round here.

Unfortunately for the Argentine, there is little in his recent record to suggest he will be able to improve on that this year.

Since losing in the second round of this tournament last year, he has only won two matches, and one of those was playing for Argentina in the ATP Cup.

The other came in the first round in Munich, his only win on clay this season.

Otherwise, it has been a sequence of almost unrelenting first-round defeats – in Sardinia, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, and, most recently, in Geneva.

Can the Columbian Prosper Again?

The current Colombian number one, this is Galan’s second appearance in the main draw in Paris.

In 2020, just as this year, he came through the qualifying competition and went on to reach the third round before losing to Novak Djokovic, by far his best result in a Grand Slam to date.

Since then, he has divided his time between the main tour and the Challenger circuit, where has been in two finals, winning a clay court tournament in Lima last November and finishing runner-up in Heilbronn in Germany earlier this month.

On the senior tour,  his best result came in Santiago, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to local favourite Christian Garin.  But he also impressed in Miami, where he reached the third round before suffering defeat at the hands of the Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

Pella v Galan Prediction and Tip

This is a match between two clay court  players, one of whom is in form and then other currently searching for it. Galan will start the clear favourite to continue Pella’s poor record in this tournament.
