Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Christina McHale Head to Head

The two ladies have quite a bit of rivalry between them with Pavlyuchenkova leading her American adversary by 5-3.

In their last two meetings, however, McHale has evened the playing field to some extent with wins over Anastasia in the 2019 Indian Wells and WTA Washington Open.

Interestingly, the two ladies have never met in a clay tournament.

Pavlyuchenkova Ready for a Showdown in Paris

The 29-year-old Russian has only competed in a couple of clay tournaments to prepare for the Paris Grand Slam. While her stint in the WTA Istanbul was less than eventful, she did have a good run in the Mutua Madrid Open.

In Spain, she reached the semifinal after beating the likes of Karolina Pliskova and Jennifer Brady, but only to lose to Aryna Sabalenka. In the same tournament, she reached the exact same stage in the doubles half too, partnered with Anastasia Potapova.

Those results were her best ones of the season so far. Pavlyuchenkova had a mundane time at the start of the 2021 WTA Tour with early-round losses in the Australian Open and Phillip Island Trophy. All through the Qatar Open, WTA Dubai, and the St. Petersburg Trophy, the Russian never moved past the second round.

Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t won a singles title since May 2018.

McHale Looking to Snap her Losing Streak

Christina McHale has lost her opening round matches in her last four tournaments on the tour. In the WTA Parma and Strasbourg Open, she was beaten by Camila Giorgi and Shelby Rogers respectively. In the Italian Open, she moved through the qualifiers to reach the main draw but was defeated by Vera Zvonareva.

Most of McHale’s season has been along these lines. In three of the four Australian events she played in, the American lost her first-round bouts. The same rut continued through the Miami Open and Volvo Car Open too.

Currently ranked World No. 95, McHale is certainly behind in comparison to Pavlyuchenkova in terms of recent form or even wins for that matter. She is also seeking her first WTA title in over five years.

Pavlyuchenkova v McHale Prediction and Tip

Pavlyuchenkova will start this game as the odds-on favourite but given that she has lost to McHale the last couple of times, she needs to be cautious.

Expect the Russian to win in three sets.
