Bautista Agut’s most recent loss to Andrey Rublev in Rome has put the Russian in charge of their head-to-head (now 4-3 in Rublev’s favor), in what was their third meeting of 2021.
Despite suffering his 12th defeat of the season, there were glimpses of his old form during the week at the Italian capital. He beat two dangerous floaters in the shape of Cristian Garin and Tommy Paul, and actually ran Rublev close in the aforementioned Round of 16 meeting.

Vilella Martinez Qualifies for Roland Garros
Mario Vilella Martinez came through qualifying to book his spot in the main draw of the French Open for the first time in his career.
The 25-year-old beat Dennis Novak and Filip Horansky, before coming from a set down to knock out Peter Gojowczyk in the final round of qualifying.
Vilella Martinez had broken new ground at Grand Slam level by reaching the main draw of the Australian Open in each of the last two editions. However, his love for the clay is unmatched, and he was in a celebratory mood after beating the German Gojowczyk to reach the main draw of the clay Slam.
He landed about 76% of first serves in, and saved a whopping 9 out of 11 breakpoints to preserve his lead in the second and third sets when he mounted an unlikely comeback.
