Heather Watson v Tara Moore Head to Head

While they have never faced off at the WTA level, there was one meeting about a decade ago on the ITF circuit. Watson had won that on an indoor hard court in straight sets.

Watson Hoping to Stall Six-Match Streak

It’s been a forgettable year for Watson who has won just two of the 10 matches she has participated in this season. Two of her eight defeats have come in qualifiers, while she enters this competition in Nottingham on the back of six successive defeats.

A first round bye here means she will be up against a player who might be ranked outside the top 450 but has some sort of practice on grass after having played her opener on Sunday.

Watson herself hasn’t played any matches on grass since her second round appearance at Wimbledon in 2019, nearly two years ago and having won her last set at the second round of Australian Open – yep, she hasn’t won a set since – it sounds like it might not be that elementary for Watson.

Can Watson now try and find some of her form from the previous season when she made it to the semifinal at Hobart, won a title in Mexico and then won all her matches at the Battle of the Brits exhibition competitions.

Moore Finally Wins a Main Draw Match

The last time Moore had won a main draw match on the WTA circuit was way back in 2016. Five years on, the Brit won another, defeating fellow countrywoman Eden Silva in a hard-fought three-setter.

Moore needed a final set tie-breaker and two hours and 26 to get past Silva and cement her place in round two.

The world number 476, who had come through a qualifying victory, won 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3) against Silva in a match of fine margins. Moore looked to have sealed her second round berth when she overturned a break of serve in the third set to take a 5-2 lead but then missed three match-points to be taken to the tie-breaker.

It was in the tie-breaker that Moore made it through to the next stage where she faces another British player.

Watson v Moore Prediction and Tip

This should be an easy win for Watson against a player who hadn’t won in ages but a games handicap of +5.5 for Moore looks like a tempting option too.
