Zarina Diyas v Shuai Zhang Head to Head

Diyas holds a 2-1 lead over Zhang, last defeating her in the 2018 Shenzhen Open. Zhang’s sole win over the Kazakh came in WTA Hiroshima a few weeks later that year in straight sets.

Diyas Starts on a Shaky Note

Zarina Diyas’s opening match against Lizette Cabrera lasted for two hours and 10 minutes. It wasn’t the most efficient of the wins from the 27-year-old player but with 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, she reached the third round in Nottingham.

Diyas started as the number 16 seed here and consequently, enjoyed a bye into the second round. With that win over Cabrera, the Kazakh has now delivered her best run since her third-round stint Phillip Island Trophy and the Australian Open.

As for her recent performance, World No. 93 had a mundane time on clay. The best she delivered was reaching the second round in the French Open and Charleston Open. She fell in the opening rounds/qualifiers in the rest of the tournaments.

It is worth mentioning that Diyas has enjoyed some success on grass courts – among the four Grand Slams, her best showing has been the Wimbledon where she has reached the fourth round in two successive seasons.

Zhang Overcomes Rodionova in Straight Sets

Shuai Zhang, currently ranked World No. 46, started her grass season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Arina Rodionova, needing a little over 90 minutes to get the job done.

This win marks the first time that the Chinese doubles veteran has reached this far in a WTA event since her fourth-round appearance in the French Open 2020. Since then, Zhang has never made it past the first round on the tour.

In fact, she has played in 10 tournaments since her stint in Paris a year ago – Zhang has lost her first-round bout in 9 of those (including this year’s Roland Garros).

The 32-year-old has seen more success on the doubles circuit, reaching the semis in the Serbia Ladies Open and the quarterfinal in the Madrid Open.

Diyas v Zhang Prediction and Tip

Zhang has the experience but Diyas has a comparatively better momentum. This will be an entertaining affair, one where Diyas will start as the favourite owing to her form but it may not be an easy win.
