Mladenovic Struggles Past Nara

After getting an opening round bye, Mladenovic needed three sets to get past Kurumi Nara in the second. She will now hope to make it successive wins, having done that just two times before this in 2021.

It wasn’t the easiest of wins either for Mladenovic, who was playing her first match on grass since 2019. The Frenchwoman, who has never made it past third round at Wimbledon, needed two hours and 18 minutes to clinch her 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory.

In a match filled with breaks of serves, Mladenovic made a rollicking start with a couple of breaks of serves which was followed by an exchange of breaks that allowed her to win it easily.

Four more breaks of serves followed in the second set, bringing parity to the set at 4-4 but a shock seemed to be on the cards when Nara broke Mladenovic in the 12th game to claim the equaliser.

Things didn’t remain as rosy for Nara in the final set though as she dropped her serve twice to fall to an easy defeat in it.

Mladenovic now faces the in-form McNally.

McNally Wins First Couple of Grass Matches

She had never been in the top 100 of the rankings before this. She had never won a main draw match on grass either.

But McNally now has two of those victories under her belt and what makes them special is both have come in straight sets.

After defeating India’s Ankita Raina in the opening round, McNally came through against Nao Hibino 6-0, 6-3 to seal her berth in round three of the competition. She needed just over an hour, broke her opponent five times and it wasn’t till she was 6-0, 4-0 up did the American finally lose a game.

A late break of serve did not bother McNally too much either as she quickly wrapped up the match and sealed her meeting with Mladenovic.

Like her opponent, McNally had also won back to back matches on just two occasions before this tournament. And a third one here and in the circumstances she got them should provide her with a lot of confidence.

Mladenovic v McNally Prediction and Tip

This won’t be a straightforward one for Mladenovic and the bookmakers have pinned her at the same odds as McNally – both starting out at 10/11. Going with the American to win this.

Tip: McNally to win: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
