Johanna Konta v Nina Stojanovic Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Stojanovic Finds Success on Grass

The 24-year-old Nina Stojanovic has reached her first semifinal on the WTA singles circuit since 2019 September. Back then, it was the Jiangxi Open in Nanchang where she made it to the semifinal, only to lose to Rebecca Peterson.

Since then, the Serbian has featured in a plethora of tournaments but never quite managed to deliver this kind of performance. Of course, she did win an ITF title but that wasn’t quite enough for her to move further up in the rankings.

So far in 2021, Stojanovic has played in hard and clay tournaments but with little to no avail. Except for the Miami Open where she reached the third round as a qualifier, Nina has lost most of her matches right in the opening rounds. In her last event in French Open, the World No. 87 fell right in the first round to Nao Hibino.

In Nottingham, she started as the number 15 seed with a bye into the second round. In the opener, she beat Oceane Dodin and then, edged past the third seed Donna Vekic with 6-3, 6-4.

After overcoming the mighty Croat, her path cleared in the form of a straight-set win over Tereza Martincova in the quarters. Having yet to drop a set on grass courts, she is certainly looking confident and strong.

Konta Rallies Ahead in Style

Johanna Konta, with this semifinal appearance in Nottingham, has once again proven that she is a force to be reckoned with, especially on grass. Plus, she has reached the Nottingham Open final twice through 2017 and 2018 but never made it to the trophy.

This time around, we can expect the World No. 20 to make amends for that and finally win a singles title in almost four years.

Her path to the semis entailed a straight-set win over Alison Van Uytvanck in the quarters. The local favourite needed just an hour and 37 minutes to beat the Belgian 6-3, 7-6(8).

Except for a slight hiccup in the third round against Kataryna Kozlova, Konta’s journey in Nottingham has been a pretty smooth one.

The best run that Konta has had this season was the Miami Open – just like Stojanovic – where she reached the third round. The last time she reached the semis was in the Western & Southern Open 2020.

Konta v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

As expected, Konta will begin as the odds-on favourite. She has the local support and is playing on very familiar turf.

Stojanovic will put up a good fight but for her to deliver this upset against the Nottingham top seed is too tall of an order.
