Victoria Azarenka v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

Azarenka holds a 2-1 lead against Petkovic although, their last meeting took place in the 2013 WTA Beijing, Petkovic won that encounter in three sets.

That said, this is the first time the two ladies will be meeting on the grass courts.

Petkovic Seeking Redemption in Grass Swing

Andrea Petkovic’s form over the last couple of seasons has deteriorated dramatically. She has fallen considerably in the rankings and the former top 10 player now finds herself outside the top 120.

With a win-loss record of 4-10, the 33-year-old German has had a pretty disappointing stint in the first half of the 2021 WTA Tour. She never made it past the first round in the entire clay swing, including the French Open where she fell to Karolina Muchova. In the preceding tournaments in Strasbourg, Italian Open, and Madrid Open, Petkovic fell right in the qualifiers.

The fact that her best run came in the Miami Open – where she reached the second round – tells us all there is to know about her form. Petkovic hasn’t made it to the penultimate rounds on the tour since the 2019 Linz Open where she reached the semifinal. As for a singles trophy, she hasn’t won one since the 2015 Antwerp Open.

Azarenka Primed for a Deep Run in Berlin

Victoria Azarenka has done a brilliant job of retaining her grip in the top 20 as she now looks to move up further.

Currently ranked World No. 16, the Belarusian is coming off a good run in the French Open where she reached the fourth round. Over there, she fell to the eventual runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova but before fighting through three sets.

Now, the 31-year-old may not have played in that many tournaments this season but in whatever events she did feature, her performance has been rather consistent.

She reached the semifinal in the Qatar Open after upsetting Elina Svitolina and followed it with a fourth-round appearance in the Miami Open. She was also a quarterfinalist in the Grampians Trophy earlier this season.

Azarenka made it to three WTA finals last season – she won the Cincinnati Open and settled for the runner-up trophies at the US Open and Ostrava Open. She has the momentum, form, and confidence needed for a solid start here in Berlin.

Azarenka v Petkovic Prediction and Tip

Petkovic may have the home advantage but that should not matter much here, especially considering her recent form and the series of disappointing results. Expect Azarenka to win this one comfortably.

Tip: Azarenka to win in straight sets: 8/15 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
