Belinda Bencic v Petra Martic Head to Head

Martic won their only previous meeting in Charleston in 2019, winning the quarterfinal in straight sets.

Bencic Rallies Against Niemeier

World No. 12 Belinda Bencic had a tough opening match on grass as she had to fight back from a set down to defeat Germany’s Jule Niemeier in Berlin on Monday.

In a match that had very little to choose between the two, Bencic edged out the World No. 167, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 12 minutes. Both players had six break points in the match, with Bencic converting three and saving four. She also won a total of 96 points in the match, three more than her 21-year-old opponent.

Bencic had come to Berlin with a 12-11 record in 2021. The 24-year-old Swiss player’s best performance this year came in Adelaide when she reached an 11th career final, but couldn’t add to her four previous titles, going down to Iga Swiatek in the final.

Bencic also reached the quarterfinal in Madrid this year.

The Swiss has a pretty good 33-15 record on grass, and has played in three finals on the surface, winning the title in Eastbourne in 2015.

A semifinalist at the U.S. Open in 2019, Bencic has reached the fourth round at Wimbledon twice (in 2015 and 2018).

Martic Battles Past Muhammad

World No. 25 Petra Martic began her grass court season with a win but it was a hard-earned one as she faced stern resistance from America’s Asia Muhammad in the opening round on Tuesday before eventually winning the contest in two hours and 11 minutes.

Both players had one break each in the match, but Martic won 75% service points and 33% return points to take the contest 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 6-3.

The win improved the 30-year-old Croatian to 11-11 this year.

The 2019 Istanbul Open champion had a quiet start to the 2021 season, but she struck form in Rome, defeating Shelby Rogers, Kristina Mladenovic, Nadia Podoroska and Jessica Pegula to reach her first-ever WTA 1000 semifinal. She eventually fell to Karolina Pliskova in the final four.

Martic is now 15-9 on grass in her career. She has reached the fourth round of Wimbledon twice, in 2017 and 2019. She also played in the semifinals in Birmingham in 2019, finishing the season with a 6-2 record on grass.

Bencic v Martic Prediction and Tip

Both are good players on grass and both had a tough time in fending off their first-round opponents. What’s more, they both have missed the consistency they would have liked this year. So this should be an evenly matched contest with a third set deciding the winner.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
