Moutet Benefits from Goffin Retirement

Moutet is currently the highest ranked player without a win over a top ten player, although in defeating David Goffin in the first round, he did put the world number 13 out of the tournament.

In reality, that was not the achievement that it might have been, because Goffin retired at the start of the third set, having just levelled the match.

Goffin begam strongly, and after breaking Moutet and saving five break points of his own, forced a second break and took the first set for the loss of just one game.

And, when Moutet dropped his serve again early in the second set, the writing looked on the wall for him.

However, with the chance to serve out for the match, Goffin faltered and allowed Moutet to break back, And two games later, the Frenchman broke once more to level the match, at which point Goffin decided to call it a day, conserving his energies for Wimbledon next week.

Kohlschreiber Rolling Back the Years

The German veteran Kohlschreiber, who won this event back in 2013, rolled back the years with a convincing first round win over the Austrian, Jurij Rodionov, who had reached the semi-final in Stuttgart last week.

In particular, he used his serve to great effect on the grass, winning 88% of point on first serve, whilst he did not face an entire break point in the entire match.

Instead, it was the Austrian who dropped his serve midway through the first set, and Kohlschreiber just held him at bay form there,

Rodionov saved two break points in the third game of the third set, but he was just delaying the inevitable, and four games later, the German broke him, Kohlschreiber then underlined his dominance with another break, and clinched the victory with his second match point.

And the fact that the match lasted just over an hour means that it did not take too much out of him either.

Moutet v Kohlschreiber Prediction and Tip

Kohlschreiber is playing in home conditions and in a tournament he has won before, but he is giving 15 years to the Frenchman, who has just recorded the best victory of his career, even though that was a qualified success. If Moutet can cope with the German’s serve, he should prevail.
