This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Hatouka Banking on her Success in ITF Tournaments

With five ITF finals so far in 2021, Yulia Hatouka has been working relentlessly to get some wins under her belt and build her form to take on the big guns.

She has gone the distance twice – winning the ITF event in Shymkent, Kazakhastan, and Kazan, Russia. As for the remaining three events, Hatouka had to settle for the runner-up trophies.

Her last ITF trophy came in Dubai in April post which, the young Belarusian started to feature in WTA events too. It wasn’t the most ideal of the starts as Hatouka fell in the first qualifying match in Istanbul and the Serbia Open.

In Strasbourg Open, however, she did reach the main draw but lost to Maryna Zanevska. Nonetheless, it was her WTA main draw debut and for her to quickly have another such appearance here in Germany is certainly a commendable feat.

In Bad Homburg, Hatouka started as a qualifier and beat Kimberly Zimmermann to reach the main draw, where she faces an opponent whom she will like to emulate in terms of career and titles.

Azarenka Off a Title-Winning Run in Berlin

Victoria Azarenka is off to a good start on grass, reaching the semifinal in the Grass Court Championships Berlin last week. She fell to a rather determined Liudmila Samsonova, who later moved on to conquer her maiden singles title and make a leap of 40 ranking places.

That said, Azarenka did win the doubles title in Berlin with Aryna Sabalenka – her first such title since the 2019 Italian Open doubles with Ashleigh Barty.

These combined performances on grass will definitely do wonders for her form and prospects here in Bad Homburg, as well as the Wimbledon next week.

As former World No. 1, Azarenka has made great strides on the tour this season as she now sits at the #14 position in the singles ranking. Her other best runs include a semifinal appearance in WTA Qatar and fourth-round stints in the French Open and Miami Open.

Azarenka v Hatouka Prediction and Tip

Hatouka is still new to the tour and will take some time to find her winning rhythm in WTA tournaments. The fact that she is ranked 250 plus places below her adversary – someone who has spent years and years playing on this surface – tells us how slim her chances of winning this game are.

Expect Azarenka to win this one in straight sets.
