Aryna Sabalenka v Alison Riske Head to Head
There have been two previous WTA main draw matches between these two along with one qualifying encounter at Rome in 2018. Sabalenka has won each of those three.
Incidentally, both the main draw matches came in finals of tournaments, at Shenzhen and Wuhan in 2019.

Having only recently joined the select few players who have ever been top four on the WTA charts, Sabalenka did not make the best of starts on grass as she fell to a first round defeat at Berlin last week.
While Madison Keys is herself not a player to be trifled with, Sabalenka’s recent form meant she was 2/5 going into that match but the Belarusian fell in a three-set encounter.
Which is why all eyes were on her as Sabalenka took to court for her opener here in Eastbourne against Bernarda Pera. And in an hour and five minutes, Sabalenka was able to get past her opponent to make it to the second round.
Sabalenka won 6-3, 6-4 after having dropped her serve in the very first game of the match, retaliating with two breaks of serves in the first and another one in the second to wrap up the encounter.
Can she now continue winning to get herself into a decent momentum before Wimbledon?

Riske Shocks Kudermetova
For a player to have come into her opening round match with a 1-4 win-loss record this season, Riske was a rank outsider for her encounter against the in-form Veronika Kudermetova.
Now while Kudermetova’s string of form this season came on hard and clay court surfaces, she has had a decent time on grass too, the little that she had played. Which is why the Russian was an overwhelming 2/5 favourite to clinch the tie.
Instead, Riske followed up his second round appearance at Nottingham earlier this month to make it back to back opening wins. She defeated the much-fancied Kudermetova 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes to seal her meeting with Sabalenka.
Both sets followed similar patterns with Riske breaking Kudermetova twice, dropping her serve once after that before finishing off the encounter.
The confidence from this kind of performance should help Riske but can she repeat that showing against a top-5 player?
