Pablo Carreno Busta v Jordan Thompson Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Barcelona Open played earlier this season with Carreno Busta easing past his opponent 6-4, 6-0 in that one.

He’s come a tad late to the grass swing party but Carreno Busta would be satisfied with the result he got in his opener. The Spaniard defeated Jiri Vesely in straight sets to move into the quarterfinal following an opening round bye.
In a match lasting an hour and 38 minutes, Carreno Busta defeated Vesely 6-4, 6-4 to continue from where he had left off on clay.
Having earlier won the title at Marbella and made it as far as the fourth round at French Open, Carreno Busta availed of two of the 10 break-points he got in his match – once apiece in the two sets – while saved the only one he faced.
What made the win extra special was Vesely hammered nine aces to none from Carreno Busta and yet the Spaniard won a whopping 85% of the first serve points to his opponent’s 65%.
Can he now move further into the tournament against a player who hasn’t been in the best of form till before this tournament?

Thompson Finally Makes it Back to Back Wins
It was early in the month of February when Thompson participated at the Great Ocean Road Open and won back to back matches there. In fact he won three in a row to reach the quarterfinals before losing to Thiago Monteiro.
Since then, Thompson had played in 11 tournaments and hadn’t achieved a single set of successive victories till before he came into this one in Mallorca.
After needing three sets against Pablo Andujar in the first round, Thompson registered a second win over Lucas Klein in exactly similar fashion as Carreno Busta. He broke Klein twice, one in each set to come through 6-4, 6-4 and set up this meeting with Carreno Busta.
And while he would know he starts off a second favourite, Carreno Busta’s ordinary record on grass should keep him in the encounter.
