Anett Kontaveit v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

Kontaveit leads 2-0 in their tour-level meetings, winning their most recent match at the 2021 French Open first round in three sets. And across all circuit including the ITF, the Estonian has a remarkable 5-0 winning record.

Kontaveit Piles More Misery On Andreescu

Anett Kontaveit made Bianca Andreescu’s stay on the grass of Eastbourne a short-lived one as she secured a comfortable straight-sets win. And consequentially, it was her 13th top 10 vicotry of her career which is quite special considering the Estonian has not been ranked as high as No. 14.

Kontaveit won 71% of first serve points, and converted six out of eight break points.

The opening stanza featured five service breaks by the time the score settled at 4-3 in Kontaveit’s favor. And the 25-year-old produced her best service game, holding to love, to lead 5-3. Andreescu ceded the next game and the set.

It was a mountain to climb for the Canadian from that moment on. She was broken to love in the fourth game as Kontaivet slammed powerful, precise returns.

Despite Andreescu’s best efforts to resuscitate herself in the contest, Kontaveit put the foot on the pedal and extinguished any hopes of a comeback, closing out a 6-3 6-3 win.

Golubic Stuns Countrywoman Bencic

Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic stunned countrywoman Belinda Bencic, winning 6-4 6-4 to maintain her fairytale run going for at least one more round.

Golubic, ranked 72nd in the world, landed 87% first serves and won 66% of those points. The 28-year-old also remained solid from the baseline and clutch in the pressure points. She saved  six out of seven break points, and eventually Bencic’s patience waned.

Golubic needed just one service break in the opening set with opportunities few and far between. And in the second set, there was a response from the accomplished Bencic, who raced to a 3-1 lead. But it has been a theme for Golubic this week, as she fought off the deficit, winning five out of the next six games to close out the match.

With her victory over Bencic, the qualifier equals her best-ever appearance on grass (also a quarterfinal in Hertogenbosch).

Kontaveit v Golubic Prediction and Tip

This seems like a very tough matchup for Golubic, but she did push Kontaveit extremely close in their most recent match at Roland Garros a few weeks ago. Those memories will still be very fresh in the Swiss’ thoughts, and we reckon she might have a similar effort here.
