Alex de Minaur v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

There have been three previous matches played between these two players and de Minaur has won each time. They last played at the 2020 US Open where de Minaur had sealed a straight-set win.

de Minaur Takes Down Broady

Having touched a career-high ranking of 18th in the world at the start of the week, de Minaur will now be aiming to make it to his second semifinal in a row when he takes on Pospisil.

And he comes into this match on the back of a clinical second round win over Liam Broady, having earlier gotten himself a bye in the opening round.

De Minaur won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 41 minutes with Broady rarely finding himself having too much of a chance in the contest. The Aussie broke his opponent twice in the first set after seeing through to 3-3, claiming the set in the process.

In the second, de Minaur again needed eight games to get himself a break and while Broady broke back, he failed to hold his own while serving to stay in the match.

With a semifinal at Queen’s Club and now another chance to make semifinal, de Minaur could well go into Wimbledon next week with a huge chance to go deeper than his career-best of third round.

Pospisil Benefits from Fokina Withdrawal

While Pospisil has a lot happening off the tennis courts, he looks to have done well in this competition with back to back wins that helped him make the quarterfinal.

After having gotten past James Ward in straight sets in the first round, Pospisil was lead Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by a set before his opponent retired with what seemed like a back injury.

In a set that lasted an hour and 12 minutes, there were no breaks of serves despite Pospisil getting four opportunities. On the other hand, the Canadian faced just one break-point and saved it easily.

What that means is since finishing the previous season as a finalist at the Sofia Open, this was the first time Pospisil had won back to back matches on the tour. And while consistency isn’t quite Pospisil’s forte these days, he does get more dangerous as he goes deeper into competitions.

Can he now send the world number 18 out?

de Minaur v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

De Minaur is an obvious favourite at 2/5 but Pospisil could take a set off him or even push him hard in one of the sets.
