Keys Improving as Season Progresses

Keys hadn’t made the best of starts to the season as she fell to a 2-4 win-loss record in her first four tournaments of 2021. It’s over the last three competitions that Keys is beginning to show some of her form from the previous years.

It’s not quite back to her best but a third round appearance at French Open consisted of wins over Oceane Dodin and Leylah Fernandez.

And this was followed by another quarterfinal in Berlin where Keys took out one of the top contenders for Wimbledon, the in-form Aryna Sabalenka. Keys needed three sets to get past her before getting stunned by the eventual – and shocking – title winner Ludmilla Samsonova.

Overall, Keys will be more pleased than she was earlier in the season but can the American better her Wimbledon showing from the last four seasons when she hasn’t made it past the fourth round.

Swan Still in Early Days of Her WTA Career

This will be the fourth time that Swan will feature in the main draw of a Grand Slam competition, and all four of her appearances have now come at Wimbledon. Only once did she win a match.

Unfortunately for Swan her overall WTA record doesn’t make for very attractive reading. Having begun her senior career in 2015, Swan has managed to win just three matches in main draws of WTA events and none since 2018.

On the other hand, Swan would be super-chuffed with the manner in which she made the main draw in the first place.

In all three of her qualifiers, Swan came into the match as an underdog; against Lizette Carbrera she was 7/5 to win it, 7/2 against Caty McNally and then 6/5 in her third round qualifier versus Arina Rodionova. She dropped just one set in those three matches.

Will that be enough though, against a way more experienced and improving opponent?
