Martic Twice Made Fourth Round at Wimbledon

A few months after recovering from the major back injury that threatened to bring her tennis career to a premature end, Martic made the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2017, a feat that she emulated two years later, with Jennifer Brady among her victims that time.

Buoyed by those sorts of performances she broke into the world’s top 20 for the first time,

2021 did not start well for the Croat, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open and endured a run of early exits from events.

She found some form m Rome, though, where she reached the semi-finals, and then reached the last eight in Parma, although a first round defeat to Camila Giorgi of Italy at the French Open was not what she would have wanted.

Switching to grass, she reached the second round in Berlin before losing to Belinda Bencic. The pair were drawn again in the first round at Eastbourne, and again it was the Swiss player who won in straight sets.
