Petra Martic v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, with both matches coming in 2020. Martic won in straight sets in the opening round in Prague, and again in the third round of the US Open.
Martic Twice Made Fourth Round at Wimbledon
A few months after recovering from the major back injury that threatened to bring her tennis career to a premature end, Martic made the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2017, a feat that she emulated two years later, with Jennifer Brady among her victims that time.
Buoyed by those sorts of performances she broke into the world’s top 20 for the first time,
2021 did not start well for the Croat, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open and endured a run of early exits from events.
She found some form m Rome, though, where she reached the semi-finals, and then reached the last eight in Parma, although a first round defeat to Camila Giorgi of Italy at the French Open was not what she would have wanted.
Switching to grass, she reached the second round in Berlin before losing to Belinda Bencic. The pair were drawn again in the first round at Eastbourne, and again it was the Swiss player who won in straight sets.
Gracheva Making Wimbledon Debut
This is the first visit to Wimbledon for the Russian – she has not even entered the qualifying competition before.
However, her preferred surface is clay, as evidenced by the fact that all nine of her finals and her seven victories, in tournaments on the ITF Circuit, have all; been on that surface.
And, to underline that fact, she recently made the third round of the French Open, emulating her achievement at the US Open last year, beating Giorgi, the woman who had defeated Martic.
Prior to that her best result on the senior tour in 2021 was her second round appearance at the Australian Open in February.
Earlier this week, she entered her first grass court event of the year in Bad Homburg , Germany but she did not get further than the first round, beaten by the Czech Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.
Martic v Gracheva Prediction and Tip
Although Martic has not been in the best of form of late, she does have a track record at Wimbledon, whereas the Russian has none, The Croat should have little difficulty in advancing to the second round.
