Diego Schwartzman v Benoit Paire Head to Head

Schwartzman and Paire have contested three matches before this, with the Argentine holding a narrow 2-1 lead. It is worth noting, none of those matches were played outside clay, with Schwartzman winning their most recent match in 2019 in Munich.

Schwartzman Loses Top 10 Ranking

Diego Schwartzman attempted to throw the spanner in the works at the French Open in a spirited effort against Rafael Nadal but ultimately fell short.

Nadal quelled Schwartzman’s fightback in the quarterfinals of their Roland Garros meeting a few weeks ago in four sets, and consequentially, the Argentine lost his top 10 rankings for the first time in almost a year.

Schwartzman had reached the last four in last year’s edition of the French Open, but failed to match that points haul and drops to No. 11 in the rankings.

At Wimbledon, Schwartzman is at his most vulnerable surroundings. With one of the weakest serves among the top 50 players owing to his height, the 28-year-old complements it with his breathless agility, and rally tolerance on the back of the court.

On grass, however, Schwartzman has very little time to chase balls and engage in rallies, making him easy prey for the powerful players. Could he fall short against the mercurial Benoit Paire in the first round?

Paire’s Season in Disarray

At this halfway stage of the season, Benoit Paire has played 18 matches. But he has made a shocking return of just two wins all year and is currently on a six-match losing streak dating back to his second-round defeat to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Madrid Masters.

Paire’s season has been a blighted by motivational issues, and lack of discipline. And as a result, he has paid a hefty price – losing sponsors and being banned from the French Olympic team.

The 32-year-old actually has a decent record on the turf of the All England Club, reaching the Round of 16 on two occasions (including the last staging of Wimbledon in 2019).

Paire was beaten quite easily by Andy Murray in his last outing which came at Queen’s –  his only match on grass prior to Wimbledon.

Schwartzman v Paire Prediction and Tip

This is a real humdinger first-round match. With Benoit Paire we are not entirely sure what to expect, but he loves playing on the grass. Paire attributed to his personal struggles due to lack of fans, but he should be pumped for the grass-court Slam following Wimbledon’s decision to open its turnstiles. We reckon the Frenchman might steal a set.

Tip: Schwartzman to win AND Both players to win a set: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
